Smartlipo MPX™ Laser by Cynosure: Information for Laser Lipo Physicians

Use the Smartlipo MPX laser lipo workstation from Cynosure for laser liposculpture of the chin, jowls, neck, arms, male breast, abdomen, back, flanks, buttocks, hips, thighs and knees. According to the manufacturer, the advantage of the Smartlipo MPX is it allows the surgeon to use versatile wavelengths independently or blended, offering a better liposuction clinical outcome.

Wavelength and Power

The Smartlipo MPX system has both 1064-nm and 1319-nm Nd:YAG source filters. This combination of wavelengths is desirable for blending different types of lipolysis. For example, the 1064-nm wavelength improves skin tone, acts on collagen fibers, concentrates on blood vessels and fat cells, and heats the skin more slowly. The 1319-nm wavelength targets water in the dermal collagen and melts the fat by bursting the cells, making fat extraction easier and promoting skin tightening, while heating the skin quicker. Used together, these wavelengths can increase successful outcomes and patient throughput. Practitioners can use either wavelength alone or both together in MPX (MultiPlex) mode.

The 1064-nm laser outputs a maximum of 20 W of power, and the 1319-nm laser outputs 12 W. Pulse durations are 150 µsec for the 1064-nm model and 212 µsec for the 1319-model.

The Smartlipo MPX laser is approved by the FDA.

Delivery Mechanism

The Smartlipo MPX workstation uses a 600-µm fiber. It is configurable for use with the SmartSense™ system by Cynosure. SmartSense is an intelligent handpiece delivery system that distributes precise energy. For example, if the handpiece stops moving, the laser stops firing within 0.2 seconds and resumes firing when the handpiece begins to move again. The Smartlipo MPX workstation does not require the use of the SmartSense handpiece.
