Male Breast Liposuction

If it's been a while since you've taken off your shirt at the pool or worn form-fitting shirts, it's time to consider male breast liposuction. Men acquire excess fat across the chest, called gynecomastia or "man boobs," and it affects men of all ages. With male breast liposuction, you can reduce gynecomastia, wear all types of shirts and enjoy a more masculine physique.

The process is simple:

  • The procedure takes place in a physician's office or clinic.
  • You are given a local anesthetic to numb the area and a mild sedative to relax you.
  • Your liposculpture surgeon uses a laser to gently melt the fat directly under the skin and to encourage skin tightening.
  • Your surgeon then places one or two small incisions on each side of the chest to begin the suctioning process with a cannula, which is about the width of a cooked spaghetti noodle.
  • Your liposuction surgeon uses slow, gentle movements to remove the fat, resulting in limited pain, fewer bruises and a rapid recovery.
  • The entire tumescent liposculpture procedure lasts about an hour.

Laser liposculpture is permanent. Once fat cells are removed from the body, they do not grow back. It produces noticeable results, leaving you with a sculpted, contoured and masculine frame.

FAQs

Why choose male breast liposuction?

Male breast reduction increases confidence, creates a more masculine physique and makes it possible to wear form-fitting clothes.

Am I a good candidate for male breast liposuction?

Laser lipo of the male breast is a safe procedure for most men with full or fatty chests with no hard glandular tissue. A man who is very thin and shows the appearance of male breasts might not be a good candidate. He might have excess glandular tissue or "true gynecomastia" and will not benefit from liposuction. These patients might benefit from a surgical procedure called direct excision, designed to remove the glandular tissue. Only a consultation with the liposuction doctor can address these issues.

Men under the age of 60 with good skin tone will generally not have sagging skin and will instead see an improvement in skin tone and firmness. Laser lipo is specifically designed to promote skin tightening as the fat is removed. However, older patients or those who have experienced dramatic weight loss may still experience sagging or lax skin and might want to consider other skin-tightening procedures along with their male breast reduction surgery.

Can male breast liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Many patients choose to have the procedure performed in conjunction with other procedures, which reduces costs and saves downtime.

Will I have any scars or sagging skin afterward?

Tumescent liposuction of the male breast leaves only a couple of small incision sites, each only about 3mm wide. The puncture sites naturally close within a day or two, fading into the natural color of the surrounding skin. Scarring does not usually occur. Hairy-chested men will not notice any scars.

Will this procedure change my nipples?

No. Gynecomastia liposuction does not change the size, color or placement of your nipples.

What are the post-op procedures?

Patients generally experience only mild discomfort after the surgery. You can walk immediately, enjoy light to medium activities, and return to work in a day or two. Some patients experience mild bruising. A compression garment similar to an Ace bandage is worn around the chest for a few days and nights, and then at least eight hours a day for a couple of weeks.

Swelling after the procedure is normal. Good results are visible within three to four weeks; final results are seen within six months. The most common discomfort patients experience is mild soreness, similar to the muscle ache that accompanies strenuous exercise.
