LipoControl™ Laser by Osyris: Information for Laser Lipo Physicians

Body sculpting and contouring workstation with on-screen electronic mapping

The LipoControl laser lipo workstation from Osyris Medical USA is used for laser liposculpture of the chin, jowls, arms, back, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees and ankles.

According to the manufacturer's website, the system uses real-time visualization of the area to be treated on-screen, thanks to a magnetic-field tracking system.

Wavelength and Power

The LipoControl continuous wave diode laser operates with a unique 980-nm source filter that emits from 1 to 25 watts of power in a continuous wave, unlike the Nd:YAG lasers, which emit pulsed waves. The power is variable so physicians can customize the treatment for each patient and body area. For example, 6 W might be appropriate for the chin, arms and knees, while 15 W might be appropriate for the thighs, hips and buttocks.

The 980-nm diode laser has been rigorously tested and is a highly efficient choice for patient safety, satisfaction and throughput.

Electronic Mapping with Automatic Power Adjustment

The LipoControl workstation has on-screen energy mapping that displays the distribution of heat and energy in real time. The laser automatically adjusts to compensate for the movement of the cannula. The laser power increases when the cannula accelerates, and the power decreases when the cannula decelerates. To decrease the possibility of burns, the laser power terminates when the cannula ceases to move.

To further assist the physician and assure patient safety, the laser maps the treatment area. The physician defines the perimeter of the treatment area, and the laser automatically powers off when the cannula moves outside of the predefined treatment perimeter.

FDA Approval

The FDA approved the LipoControl laser in January 2011 for laser-assisted lipolysis.

Delivery Mechanism

The LipoControl laser uses a 600-µm fiber. Its specially designed, patented cannula assures homogeneous results.

Summary

The LipoControl laser uses electronic mapping to assist the physician and assure patient safety. The 980-nm diode laser with 25 W of power promotes maximum patient safety and throughput.
