CoolLipo™ Laser by CoolTouch®: Information for Laser Lipo Physicians

Exclusive 1320 nm small area fat removal and body sculpting station

Use the CoolLipo laser workstation from CoolTouch for laser liposculpture of the chin, neck, arms, male breast, abdomen, back, buttocks and thighs. According to the manufacturer, the unique wavelength of the system directly contracts collagen and tightens the skin, an effect not seen with standard liposuction.

Wavelength and Power

The CoolLipo laser has an exclusive 1320-nm Nd:YAG source filter and is rated for a maximum of 15 watts of power. The 1320 wavelength targets water and acts on the dermal collagen, which causes shrinkage and stimulates cellular regrowth, which in turn promotes skin tightening and the reduction of lines and wrinkles. The short pulse duration of 100 µsec means greater tissue ablation and less collateral damage.

FDA Approval

CoolLipo is approved by the FDA for general dermatological surgery and received FDA clearance for laser lipo in January 2008.

Delivery Mechanism

The CoolLipo uses 200-, 32-0, and 500-µm fibers. The CoolLipo laser workstation is also configurable for use with the CoolBlue Duet™ handpiece by CoolTouch. It controls laser emission and aspiration simultaneously, aspirating the fat at the point of lipolysis and eliminating the need for a secondary aspiration step. The CoolBlue Duet handpiece is available in several cannula styles, sizes and lengths. The CoolLipo laser does not require the use of the CoolBlue Duet handpiece.

Summary

The CoolLipo laser is especially well suited for fat removal in small areas such as the neck, chin and jowls that are not easily treated by conventional liposuction.
