Back & Bra Bulge Liposuction

Eliminate unsightly back fat, trim your sides, and smooth your bra line

You can see it through clothes-that bulge above the waist on your back and sides. For women, it's most obvious along the bra line. Often unflatteringly called "bra fat," this excess back fat cannot be reduced by exercises or even a "back fat bra."

With liposuction of the back, men and women can permanently rid themselves of troublesome back fat, giving men masculine torsos and sides, and providing women with smooth and svelte upper body profiles. The process is simple:

  • You'll have your back and bra bulge liposculpture in your surgeon's office or clinic setting under local anesthesia with mild sedation.
  • One of a variety of techniques is used to break up or gently melt the fat under the skin, which encourages skin tightening. Depending on the density of the back fat, tumescent liposuction might be combined with Vaser® and SmartLipo™ for optimal results.
  • Your surgeon places small incisions along the sides of the back to begin the suctioning process with a cannula, which is about the width of a cooked spaghetti noodle. This is part of the sculpting process that trims your sides from the shoulder blades to the waist.
  • Your surgeon uses slow, gentle movements to remove the fat, resulting in limited pain, fewer bruises and a rapid recovery.

The arm liposculpture procedure lasts about an hour or two.

The results are permanent. Fat cells do not grow back once they are removed; however, because not all fat cells are removed, future weight gain will enlarge the remaining fat cells. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle ensures the greatest success after back and bra-bulge liposuction.

FAQs

Why choose back and bra bulge liposuction?

Men and women benefit from back and bra fat liposuction because it reduces fatty deposits along the back and sides above the waist, naturally tapering and restoring proportion to the body. Diet and exercise do not always eliminate stubborn deposits of fat.

Am I a good candidate for back and bra bulge liposuction?

Laser lipo of the back is a safe procedure for most men and women who have a high accumulation of dense, fatty deposits on the sides or across the breadth of the upper back. If you can pinch more than a quarter inch of fat from your back above your waist, this procedure can improve your profile by eliminating that fat. If you have had gastric bypass or lost more than 100 pounds, you might want to consider further skin-tightening procedures for loose skin. Your doctor will address these issues.

Can bra bulge and back liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Many patients choose to have their back liposculpture procedure performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as abdominal liposuction.

Will I have scars or sagging skin after back liposuction?

Liposuction of the back leaves only a couple of small incision sites, each only about 3mm wide. The puncture sites naturally close within a day or two, fading into the natural color of the surrounding skin. Scarring does not usually occur. Laser lipo promotes skin tightening and restores collagen. Anyone under the age of 60 with good skin tone will likely see improvement in skin tone and firmness. However, older patients or those who have experienced dramatic weight loss might experience sagging or lax skin.

What are the post-op procedures for back liposuction?

Patients generally experience only mild discomfort after the procedure. You can walk afterward and enjoy light to medium activities, returning to work in a day or two. Mild bruising is to be expected. A compression garment similar to a girdle is worn around the torso for a few days and nights and then at least eight hours a day for two to three weeks.

Good results are visible within three to four weeks; final results are seen within six months. The most common discomfort patients experience is mild soreness, similar to the muscle ache that accompanies strenuous exercise.
