Abdominal Liposuction
Eliminate Stomach Fat and Lower Belly Bulge
Many people carry something extra with them every day: love handles, a spare tire, belly bulge, a stomach pooch. Unwelcome stomach fat is an unfortunate fact of life for young and old, men and women.
Your shape is affected by many events in your life: aging, pregnancy, weight gain and activity levels. As you grow older, you lose muscle tone and accumulate fat across the stomach. Even young women who are otherwise very thin can have a lower belly bulge that won't improve with diet or exercise.
With abdominal liposuction, you can wear clothes that fit better, shop at those trendy stores in the mall and have the waistline that you have always wanted. Having a surgeon eliminate your belly fat with liposculpture is much easier and safer than undergoing a traditional tummy tuck. The process is simple:
- The procedure is typically performed in a physician's office or clinic.
- Local anesthesia with a mild sedation is typically administered.
- The surgeon gently melts the fat directly under the skin and to encourage skin tightening.
- He or she then places one or two small incisions in the upper and lower abdomen to begin the suctioning process with a small cannula, only about 3mm wide.
- Your liposuction surgeon uses slow, gentle movements to remove the fat, resulting in limited pain, fewer bruises and a rapid recovery.
The abdominal liposculpture procedure lasts under two hours. Most patients are back at work in one or two days.
Laser lipo is permanent. Once fat cells are removed from the body, they do not grow back, but not all fat cells are removed. Your skin and body need fat for energy storage, insulation and other reasons. If you gain weight in the future, your remaining fat cells will enlarge. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle ensures the greatest success after abdominal liposuction.

FAQs
Why choose abdominal liposuction? Is it for men or women?
Men and women with stubborn fat deposits around their midsections can benefit from abdominal liposuction. Men can regain definition, giving them six-pack abs. Women can recapture the smooth, flat stomach from their younger years, before pregnancy. Thin women can be free of stubborn lower belly pooch.
Am I a good candidate for abdominal liposuction?
Patients in general good health with excess fat on the abdomen can benefit from liposculpture. Anyone who has fatty deposits under the abdominal muscle, such as patients with barrel-shaped waists, might not be good candidates, because abdominal liposuction reduces only the fatty layer that rests on top of the stomach muscles.
Anyone under the age of 60 with good skin tone will generally not notice sagging skin. Laser lipo is specifically designed to promote skin tightening as the fat is removed. Older patients or those who have lost considerable weight might experience sagging or lax skin, and their physicians might suggest other procedures to correct that.
Will abdominal lipo give me a 6-pack?
It's possible. Liposuction is designed to remove fat, so it removes the fatty layer to reveal the muscle structure underneath. The shape of your muscles determines the shape of your stomach; if you have six-pack muscles, you will have six-pack abs after the procedure. Flat muscles produce flat stomachs, but most people have small imperfections in the muscles that persist after having liposculpture.
Will I have scars or sagging skin?
Liposuction of the abdomen leaves only one or two small incision sites on the upper and lower stomach, each about 3mm wide. Scarring does not usually occur; however, resulting scars normally fade into the natural color of the skin.
What are the post-op procedures for abdominal liposuction?
Patients generally experience mild discomfort. You will be able to get up and walk around afterward, enjoy light to medium activities and return to work in a day or two. Some patients experience mild bruising. A compression garment similar to an Ace bandage is worn around the waist for a few days, and then at least eight hours a day for about two weeks.
The waist and stomach take the longest period to recover, and swelling is normal. Good results are visible within about a month or two; final results are seen within six months. While it takes a while for the swelling to go down, minimal to no pain is involved. The most common discomfort patients experience is mild soreness, similar to the muscle ache that accompanies strenuous exercise.
Will abdominal liposuction affect future pregnancies?
No. Abdominal liposuction removes only the fatty deposits from the stomach and does not affect your muscles, organs or ability to bear children.
